Stressless FaLaLaLaLa Christmas in 2016

Stressed and Happy Santa

Here it is December 4th, getting closer to Christmas, and this is my first post to the FaLaLaLaLa blog. I feel a bit like a slacker…

The truth is, I’ve been having a bit of an existential crisis regarding the site. I had been trying to find a mission or a project to differentiate The Fa (as it is sometimes affectionately called by the denizens of the Fireside forums…) and give folks a specific reason for coming back.

If you’ve followed The Fa over the years, you have probably noticed that posts can be infrequent and seemingly random. While I love sharing Christmas music with the world, my main priority is enjoying the season with my family and friends, making memories and sharing time together. FaLaLaLaLa is just one small part of my holidays.

As of a few weeks ago, I had planned on returning to the old format of the ADVENTure in Carols–posting a song a day to download and then a booklet with artwork come Christmas Day. I even had a theme all picked out and was auditioning songs and trying to find an illustrator for the cover. But as the process progressed I started feeling stressed and realized I was not enjoying it. And it has always been important to me that the spirit of the holidays not be ruined by stress or pressure to make them perfect. I had watched my mom for years wearing herself out with preparations–shopping, decorating, cooking, etc.–to make a beautiful Christmas. Which she did. But it stressed her out so much. That doesn’t work for me.

So, here’s the mission at this point: Share music that I love. Period.

That’s it. No plan. No schedule. No calendar.

So stay tuned for some newly discovered classic albums, some special playlists, CD reviews, and more!

You have added Christmas happiness to our family for many years. Some of our now nearly grown children have favorites that originated- and still, we can only find- with you. So our hardrive died and I come hunting this year.
I must say, Bravo the choice! The central, right choice.

  2. Merry Christmas, King! Sorry to hear posting the song-a-day has been more stress than joy. I’ve loved your site for many many years and will always come back to see what you post. Don’t sweat trying to differentiate — just keep doin’ what you’re doin’ at whatever speed you need. Thanks for everything!

  3. Thanks for the kind words, folks. It’s just a matter sometimes of changing your point of view. Nobody ever placed any pressure on my but myself, and it’s liberating realizing that. Then I can move forward from a place of enthusiasm rather than (perceived) obligation…

Wising you and your loved ones a Merry Merry Christmas season. And I must offer another gesture of appreciation for what you’ve graciously shared over the years. Whatever you chose to do, my hope and prayer is that it would ultimately bring you peace and joy.
