Hey folks. Well, it sure has been quiet around here the past month or so, huh? Sort of a weird letdown, sometimes like Christmas day itself. But we move on, back into the normal workaday world that we inhabit.
I’m sure lots of you out there still keep your eyes peeled for new little Christmas gems to add to your collection. Me, too.
Here’s a lovely little thing I just picked up off the ol’ Ebay:
The sleeve says “featuring the Mike Sammes Singers and the Derek Cox Quintet” and includes versions of I Saw Three Ships, Jingle Bells, Good King Wenceslas, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Silent Night and The Ovaltine Theme (a cool, jazzy instrumental). Now my love for Mr. Sammes’ organization is well-known around here and I had to snap this up just for the cover. I figured the tunes would be recordings that I already had, but I was happily wrong. These are all new arrangements and recordings (well, new to me anyway). The record itself has quite a bit of noise and will require some work, but it will definitely be worth it.
P.S. I also picked up a copy of Sammes’ biography, Backing Into The Limelight, and am finding it a great read. The man had a wonderful sense of humor and writes with lots of personality.
