I was born in 1965, and so for me my formative Christmases occurred in the late 1960s to late 1970s. And so, back in 2014 I put together a mix of 1970s Christmas music culled from tunes in my personal vinyl collection. I called it Jingle Bellbottoms and lots of folks seemed to enjoy it and it’s had over 3,000 plays over on Mixcloud.
Well, I decided to expand on that list with more music from the era and to make it accessible via Spotify. I expanded it to include some of the 1960s as well as the 1970s. Lots of the music has that ‘groovy’ feel to it, but there’s also plenty of more traditional music that came out then; syrupy strings, funky disco, etc.
Here’s a list of some of the artists represented:
- The Partridge Family
- The Carpenters
- John Denver & The Muppets
- The Ventures
- The Soulful Strings
- Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass (as well as plenty of imitators…)
- The Singers Unlimited
- Bobby Sherman
- The Brady Bunch
- The Jackson 5
- Muzak Orchestra
- Elvis Presley
- and lots more!
You can stream it here or go on over to Spotify and follow the playlist for yourself. And, as always, if you enjoy it please share it with friends. The playlist has over 27 hours of music, so it’s great to play on shuffle so you can hear different tunes each time.
If there’s any music that I’m missing (that’s available on Spotify), please let me know in the comments.
